There are many different websites which contain a 2d barcode generator online. Although few are substantially uniquely coded. Many simply apply the Google Chart API. Many others are based on the ZXing open source code. So the difference between one online 2d barcode generator and another can be fairly superficial. The choice between one and another can often be reduced to personal preference or which one you found first.
As a consequence of the many websites with a 2d barcode generator online, and the increasing popularity of the related technology, there are an increasing variety of ‘lists’ displaying favourite methods and sites to generate 2d barcodes on. So, as my contribution to this community of interested bloggers and website owners, I decided to add my own list of online barcode creation tools, whilst including some of their suggestions also. Thereby creating a sort of ‘list of lists’ of ways to generate a 2d barcode online.
The Ultimate 2d Barcode Generator Online List
All barcode generators listed are online website based services, and do not require a download of any kind. All sites listed are free to use, although may have some restrictions for commercial use (check the sites’ terms & conditions if you wish to use their output for business/commercial purposes). Any further suggestions gratefully received, and will be added to the list.
1. Google Charts 2d Barcode Generator
First, it makes sense to add Google’s own Chart API, and barcode generator, which is the source for many others. The Google Chart API will generate a barcode, in the appropriate QR code version depending on how many characters you provide. So if you provide 55 alphanumeric characters, it will generate a Version 3 QR code. Before creating a QR code, think about what sort of device will be reading your code. The best readers can read Version 40 codes. Most mobile devices can only read up to Version 4.

2. ZXing QR Code Generator
ZXing is an open-source and multi-format 1D and 2D barcode image processing library made with Java. The project goal is to use mobile phone cameras to photograph and decode barcodes on the phone, without the need to communicate with a server. As a complement to their decoding software, ZXing created a web-based QR Code generator that supports contact information, calendar events, URLs, and more. And Includes encoding in MECARD format.

3. Kerem Erkan’s QR Code & 2d Barcode Generator Online
Kerem Erkan’s online barcode generator is written in php, and can generate QR Code, Data Matrix, Aztec Code and Micro QR Code. It also has a few more features than many other online barcode creators, such as the option to pick colors for foreground and background, and the ability to shorten URLs.

4. TEC-IT Barcode Generator and Business Card Creator
The TEC-IT site is a personal favourite. They offer a great many more output options than just about any other site I have found, including a Micro QR code generator. And their site is generally very well laid out. They offer 1d and 2d barcode generators, with pages dedicated to the creation of event, business card, postal code and wi-fi barcodes. They even offer a range of business card templates to output your newly created barcode to.

5. QR Stuff Barcode Generator
QR Stuff is a site dedicated to creating, displaying and exchanging barcodes in a wide range of ways. It’s more than a code creator, it’s a one-stop QR Code shop! Whether you simply want to create a barcode online, or if you want some ideas about what to do with it, take a look at this useful site.

BeQRious Online QR Code Generator
BeQRious is a QR COde news site with its own QR Code creator. This one gets top points for style, and is probably the slickest looking barcode generator, having a very ‘Web 2.0′ look about it, and offering a very wide variety of options.

6. Jaxo-Systems Barcode Generator
This barcode Generator by Jaxo-Systems is unusual in that it creates the code ‘live’ as you type your information into the text field. If you are interested in studying 2d codes for aesthetic reasons (for the designers and artists among you) this generator is one you should check out! I enjoyed playing with it and watching the little black squares jump around and reconfiguring themselves every time I typed another letter into the text field. It also offers a color picker, and a variety of other options.

7. Barcode Generator
As the name says, this site generates barcodes! What I like about this one is that in a very simple way it shows images of the barcodes, for you to select which one you want. A simple idea, but seemingly unusual. It also offers some less usual codes such as Maxicode, Planet, and Aztec Runes. A nice site for ‘playing’.

8. GOQR.me
Another nicely designed user interface, this one stark and sophisticated. It offers a number of options and outputs. Easy to use and probably one you would come back to. Also offers a wide variety of sizes for your finished code.

9. Kaywa QR Code generator
Not as basic as some, but with fewer options of others, the Kaywa QR Code generator does the job simply and effectively.

10. Sparqcode / Maestro Barcode Generator
Highly developed graphical user interface on this one, although perhaps not as visually impressive as some of the simpler ones. This online code generator will create QR Codes for telephones, SMS, Maps, URL, MeCards as well as raw data.

11. IDAutomation Online 2d Barcode Generators
IDAutomation offers a variety of barcode generators on its site, including Data Matrix, Linear, Aztec, Databar, MaxiCode, PDF417, and QR Code.
